Imelda Romualdez Marcos once known as the "Steel Butterfly", was born in 1930 to a prominent family in the Central Visayas in Leyte Province in the Philippine Islands. After winning a nation-wide beauty contest she married Ferdinand Marcos, a rising political leader who later became president of the Philippines. She is to this day remembered for her "shoe collection".

Ferdianad Marcos was arrested while studying for the bar in 1938 and charged with the murder of his father's political opponent. He did not just pass but came out to be top of his class.
